FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup 2010. Sheffield (Great Britain), 1st of 4

INDOOR ENDURO WORLD CUP OPENS IN SHEFFIELD

The first Indoor Enduro World Cup event will take place on Saturday 31st October in the Sheffield Arena (England). The competition, promoted by RPM Racing, consists of 3 more events in Genoa (5/12), Vigo (9/01) and in Madrid (30/01). The Spanish rider Iván Cervantes hopes to retain his title.

23/10/2009 – There are 31 riders entered on the list, with 11 nationalities represented. 20 of these riders will participate in all of the FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup events.  All of them have one objective – to oust Iván Cervantes. But the Spanish rider has no intention of making this an easy task.

Taddy Blazusiak (KTM) – current runner-up -, David Knight – champion in 2008-, Mika Ahola (Honda) , Antoine Méo (Husqvarna)  winner in  ISDE in Portugal 2009, the French rider Nambotin (Gas Gas), are only five of the fearsome adversaries that the Spanish rider will have to beat if he is to retain his number one position in this specialty. But he will also have to compete with other specialists in Enduro extreme such as the former trial rider Graham Jarvis (Sherco) and the ex-Enduro World Champion Paul Edmundson (Suzuki) or the trial multi-champion Dougie Lampkin (Beta), who last year made his debut in the Indoor Enduro speciality, rapidly attaining excellent results.

The Sheffield arena has housed motor events such as the World Indoor Trial and the British Supercross championship, but it is the first time this prestigious stadium will hold the Indoor Enduro.  This will be the first scoring event for the 2010 World Cup which will take place during the interim season in the Enduro World Championship.

The competition will continue in Genoa, where the Palasport Palafiera of the Italian city will host an Indoor Enduro event for the third time, and then the Indoor Enduro moves to Spain. Vigo, like Sheffield, makes its debut in the world competition after having successfully held a national competition to critical and public acclaim. To close the Cup, Madrid has once again been selected to hand over the first title of 2010.

In this first event, three of the habitual riders have been obliged to withdraw due to injury. The Italian Fabio Mossini (Honda), who finished third last year, was injured in ISDE and will not recover in time for Sheffield. Neither will the Polish rider Husqvarna Bartosz Oblucki nor the Spanish rider Xavi Galindo (KTM), who is in the last stages of his recovery from a fractured tibia which he received in the summer while participating in the Romaniacs Rally.

These absences will no doubt be covered by other drivers who will be competing in this event, like the American Mike Brown, who has just won the American title WORCS (World Off-Road Champion Series), Greg Evans, who participated in all the events last year, and the former cross rider Gordon Crockard.
